About Shoulder Season
Shoulder Season is a free guide to seasonal outdoor work: ski and snowboard instructor jobs, raft guide jobs and bike guide and coaching jobs across North America, plus the live conditions guides check every day: river flows, snow totals and avalanche danger, and a map of lift-served bike parks.
It's built by working guides who have strung together winters in ski school and summers on the river and the bike trails. We wanted one place that shows pay, housing and certifications up front, and that links straight to the employer.
How listings are sourced
- Jobs come from employers' own careers sites and applicant systems (for example Vail Resorts, Alterra and POWDR careers, and outfitters' own job pages), plus official US Department of Labor H-2B job orders, where we link Apply to the employer's own careers page.
- We don't copy listings from third-party job boards. Every Apply button goes to the employer's own posting or careers page.
- We only show pay, housing and certification details the employer published. If pay isn't published we say "Pay not listed" rather than guess.
- Listings for past seasons, or that the employer marks as filled or closed, are removed.
How often it's updated
- Job listings: refreshed weekly (Mondays), including a check for dead or closed links. Last refresh: 2026-11-04.
- River flows, snow totals and avalanche danger: refreshed daily, around 6 AM Mountain Time.
- Bike park details and trail maps: checked by hand, a few times a season.
Conditions data is for planning only. It isn't a safety call; always check the official avalanche forecast and river gauges before you go.
How we make money
Some links are affiliate links (for example Viator for guided trips, and other travel partners through Travelpayouts, which can convert travel links automatically). Links we add ourselves are labelled where they appear. Employers can also pay for a featured listing, which is always marked. Neither changes which jobs we list.
